Side By Side Refrigerators Reviewed

A side-by-side refrigerator is an appliance where two units – a fridge and a freezer – are placed next to each other into one box.  In many parts of the world, these fridge freezers are known as “American Style” refrigerator freezers due to their popularity in the U.S.

Many people are fans of side-by-side refrigerators as they are relatively simple to organize. Having a lot of shelving in the refrigerated compartment allows the content to be stacked up in a nicely organized way with food labels easy to see.

The same applies for the frozen food compartment.  The ability to store frozen foods on multiple layers of shelving greatly eases the hassle of finding individual items in the freezer later on.

In many American homes, the Side-By-Side refrigerator is the appliance of choice.  They generally offer superior functionality and greater capacity than more traditional bottom freezer or top freezer models.  This does come at a price however; top freezer models are usually significantly cheaper.

For the homeowner willing to pay for extra features, there are many great optional extras for side-by-side models.  The more expensive models include ice and water dispensers – sometimes filtered – and niceties such as soda can dispensers and built in wine-racks.

There is no shortage of styles available for these refrigerators either. As well as the traditional white refrigerator, these models can commonly be had in black or stainless steel.  Occasionally they can even be found in exotic colors like bisque, or even with a copper finish.  For a homeowner seeking a certain look these color choices are very handy.

While most side by side models are freestanding, they also come in built-in and integrated refrigerator styles.  While these are not cheap discount refrigerators, they are very popular with those buying expensive brands for high-end homes – Sub Zero refrigerators to name just one example.
